Wake me up when September ends

We have more in common than what separates us… VP Kamala Harris said at the DNC last week with her navy “pussy bow” shirt, reminiscent of former First Lady Melania Trump’s “pussy bow” shirt in 2016, which was scrutinized after it was revealed that her husband had previously used similar language in an unrelated incident… See, two women can have opposing political views but similar sartorial taste! (Cue: Style Across the Aisle! Happening in just eight days at Gracie Mansion: a bipartisan fashion show where electeds model the runway wearing designers from their districts…)

At an AJC (American Jewish Committee) ACCESS NY happy hour earlier this week, City Hall’s Moshe Davis was bonding with AJC’s Josh Kramer about the fact they’re each expecting babies with their wives this month… AJC is an organization that empowers young Jewish leaders in New York through advocacy, leadership training, and global engagement (and apparently fatherhood!)…. The same evening was a “Jewish Women for Kamala” event featuring Eva Wyner from Governor Hochul’s office; Gabby Eiss from Geto & deMilly; and Brooklyn-based, Israeli-American advocate, Executive Director of The Narrow Bridge Project, a non-profit that brings young Jewish people together for courageous dialogue across their differing views, Alana Zeitchik – whose family is still captive in Gaza… Kamala’s husband Doug Emhoff was in New York City too this week, speaking at an event attended by Cozen O’ Connors’ Jamie Ansorge…

Who was on Long Island this week? Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference alongside Sheriff Anthony Miranda in Hempstead at the Reworld Waste (former Covanta) facility to burn four tons of cannabis, taken from more than 1,000 unlicensed shops…. Actress Jessica Biel was at the Nassau County Legislature Building in Mineola filming her Netflix show (she’s been there most of the summer!… The Dalai Lama was at UBS Arena in Elmont – which is the location of next week’s annual VMA Awards, at which many other celebrities will be present… His Holiness made a visit there after spending most of the summer recovering from knee surgery in Syracuse, New York…

State Senate candidate Lisa Lin and Assembly candidate Ellen Lederer DeFrancesco held a joint fundraising event at Frida’s Mexican Grill in Seaford at which many Long Island democrats were present… Congressional candidate and former Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen held an event whereby she released an action plan to combat antisemitism, while her opponent, sitting Congressman Anthony D’Esposito, reaffirmed his own actions taken thus far to do the same at the federal level, more specifically, pointing at legislation the ‘Stop anti-Semitism on College Campuses Act’ ( H. R. 3773) which has by the way, only one Democrat co-sponsor… and is supported by 27 Republicans as of the writing of the newsletter…

Nassau County Legislator Mazi Pilip hosted a rally at Columbia University alongside Michelle Ahdoot, director of strategy and programming at End Jew Hatred, to champion the legislation, “Unmask the Hate” which was attended by Jewish influencers, Lizzy Savetsky, Ari Ackerman, and Columbia professor Shai Davidai as well as 100 activists to call on American college campuses to ban people from protesting with face coverings hiding their identities…

Council Member Keith Powers, who has announced his race for Manhattan Borough President, accompanied DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez and NYC Department of Design and Construction Commissioner Thomas Foley to announce a new RFP to redo the Park Avenue Medians…  NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper is stepping down from his role after nearly three decades with the NYPD and will be transitioning to a new position at the MTA…

State Senator Jamaal Bailey celebrated his birthday this week – more on him below! – as did Council Member David Carr – who received praise and hashtag bipartisanship from Council colleague Kamaillah Hanks… Council Members Shaun Abreu and Nantasha Williams visited glass recycling facility in southeast queens

IN EIGHT DAYS… Our favorite political personalities will become runway models for Style Across the Aisle during New York Fashion Week at Gracie Mansion
